Rotelli’s was our restaurant of choice to celebrate my mother’s birthday tonight. It’s a bit off the beaten, Highway 17, path for most tourists, but it’s worth a mention. This is a chain restaurant, but the only one in the Grand Strand. They serve pizza, pasta, salads, and sandwiches, including the typical children’s fare of chicken fingers and fries.
Tonight, as is the typical case, the restaurant was not crowded and we were seated immediately. In fact, we were given the back room, which was nice since it was a lively occasion. Our server was very attentive and the service, overall, moved at a nice pace. That worked out well since we were in a semi-rush and attempting to fit in an appetizer, salads, main course and dessert.
As an appetizer, we got mozzarella sticks. They were pretty typical and, in my opinion, could have been cooked just a bit more. However, the marinara they serve with them is so good, they probably could have come out frozen and I wouldn’t have complained much.
My salad was great – very fresh. I love their ranch dressing and hubby loves their house dressing. The kids love the cucumbers, so everyone was happy. Accompanying the salad were garlic knot rolls and they are delish.
For my entrée I got the Chicken Madeira. Hubby got the Cannelloni Stuffed with Veal. Mom got a calzone and the kiddos got kids’ pizzas – one with pineapple. Here is where my only criticism comes in. I am not certain I think the chicken was fresh. It certainly didn’t taste spoiled or anything. It’s more that I suspect it was processed and frozen. Not my first choice. Though the sauce was great, mashed potatoes very savory and mushrooms fresh, that chicken is hanging me up a bit.
Mom loved her calzone and said she had been craving it for quite some time. Hubby considers the Cannelloni Stuffed with Veal to be his “usual” and he cleaned his plate. The girls ate so much that my younger one said she wasn’t eating again until Monday.r
Our total bill for all of this plus soft drinks came to $85 with tip.
We love this restaurant because it’s casual, rarely crowded and the food is very good. We’ve been many times, will be back many more and I consider it a gem in this area! Definitely a good spot for families.
