As promised, I want to dedicate an entire post to how awesome the Myrtle Beach Pelicans are for families in our area. They play on BB&T Coastal Field, located at the corner of 21st Avenue and Robert Grissom Parkway, in Myrtle Beach.
In typical minor league style, the Pelicans always put out a great effort and the baseball is great. Well…at least I think it is. The truth is, I’m not the biggest baseball fan. I could probably name you ten, or so, professional teams. I couldn’t name more than three professional players. So why am I so smitten with our local team? Read on.
BB&T Coastal field is full-service. There are meal-worthy and sweet concessions. There is a shop filled with Pelican products from floor to ceiling. There is a fantastic playground for when the kids need a change of pace. The announcers are informative – and funny. Between innings, there are contests, games, and prizes. Birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, and groups are announced on the jumbo screen on the field. We sing “Take me out the ballgame.” Mascots roam around the stadium, interacting with guests. And Myrtle Beach’s favorite yellow lab, Deuce, delivers a basket of balls to the umpire and runs the bases. Before some games, families are welcomed onto the field to play catch. After others, children are invited to run the bases.
To sweeten the deal even more, the Pelicans have a packed promotion schedule. Events include free Webkinz, kids eat free nights, giveaways of all varieties, and specials on ticket and food purchases. Here is a link to the Pelicans schedule, which not only tells you when there are games, but also includes information about which games end with fireworks!
If I haven’t been convincing enough, let me share one last thing. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have a Kids Club, where children ages 3 – 12 can get tickets to 9 games (there are 7 remaining) for a total of $10. Since normal single-game tickets range from $13 to $7 per game, that’s an extraordinary deal that also comes with a 10% discount at the store during Sunday home games and an exclusive autograph session with Pelicans players.
See you at the ballpark! And best of luck to the Pelicans in their 2011 season!
