Let me preface this post by saying I’m not a fan of grocery shopping. It’s, obviously, a necessary evil, but in no way entertaining to me. So why do I light up at the opening of a new on in the Grand Strand? Read on.
Before living in Myrtle Beach, our family spent five years in the Piedmont of North Carolina. During our time there, we were graced with the heaven of all grocery stores, The Fresh Market. Imagine my delight when a franchise opened locally!
It’s an upscale grocery store with choices you won’t find anywhere. When I visited the newest location recently I found wines from all over, beautiful and ripe fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meats, and prepared foods easy enough to cook to pass off as my own with barely any work. They have an insane number of coffee and nut varieties. My favorite items are the spinach/artichoke dip and sourdough rolls. Think you want something sweet? Their dessert case will blow your mind with single serve slices of cakes, pies, cupcakes, tortes, custards…I could go on and go.
This isn’t the type of grocery store you’ll pick up your Tide and paper towels in. It’s expensive and the aisles are tight. There are lots of things to touch and sample, so depending on the age of your child, it can be a challenging environment. When we took ours, though, they were so excited about the different types of produce they saw that aren’t in typical local grocery stores that we got them to try a few new things. Yellow plums were a hit!
The Fresh Market in our area is located at 11421-A Ocean Highway in Pawley’s Island and can be reached at (843) 235-3467. It’s so worth the drive down to the south Strand!
You can find the corporate website here. There is some online shopping available and recipes!
