Atlantic Stage offers a series of summer family-friendly productions

I saw a press release today about a series of family-friendly summer shows presented by Atlantic Stage.

Atlantic Stage, the only non-profit professional theatre in the Myrtle Beach area is extending their productions into the summer with two family-friendly plays. The Oodles of Strudel Scrumptious Kitchen Caper runs June 4 to June 29, 2012.  The Complete History of America (abridged): Special Election Year Editionrunning, runs July 17 through August 3, 2012. 

The Oodles of Strudel Scrumptious Kitchen Caper is a play for young audiences by Jayce T. Tromsness, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Distracted Globe Theatre Company in Greenville, S.C. The plot revolves around picky Princess Daphne who has been cursed by the evil witch Tansey, so that all food tastes YUCKY!  The castle kitchen staff must travel to faraway places, battle polar bears, lions and dragons in order to gather the ingredients for the magical dish that will break the curse on Princess Daphne.  True love awaits the Princess if they succeed. The play is appropriate for children of all ages.
 
Oodles opens at Atlantic Stage’s home, the 79th Avenue Theatre, in Myrtle Beach on Monday, June 4 at 6 p.m. for three weeks on Mondays and Tuesdays. Starting Wednesday, June 13 10:30am performances will begin at the Cooper House in Socastee on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (except June 15) through June 29. The Cooper House is located at 6011 Dick Pond Road in Myrtle Beach the performance will be in the Event Center building on the property. The individual ticket price is $10.
 
On Tuesday, July 17, The Complete History of America (abridged): Special Election Year Edition opens for adults and families with children over the age of twelve. Billed as “600 Years of History in 6000 seconds” the Reduced Shakespeare Company has recently updated their script with new material on the U.S. presidential political contenders.  The play will run Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. for three weeks ending on August 3. Ticket prices will range from $27.50 – $17.50.

    Cant wait to see “Oodles of Strudel” next week. We’ve seen other shows at Atlantic Stage and have been impressed by this theatre company. Thanks, Atlantic Stage, for going into the “kids show” business and offering a positive family fun option!
