This post is a bit last-minute, but when we drove through Sumter a few weeks ago I made a mental note to write an article about their upcoming air show, this weekend, May 5th and 6th.
The show will feature the Air Force Thunderbirds. I’m a Blue Angel fan myself, mostly due to their appearance over our own Grand Strand coastline eight years ago, but hey. I hear the Thunderbirds are pretty darn awesome, as well. So are the Golden Knights, who are also performing. For a full list of participants, click here. It’s impressive!
The gates open at 7:30 a.m. each day of the show. Admission and parking is free and the performances run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can see the schedule here, but note that, according to their site, the order of the show is not announced prior to the date.
Shaw AFB is about two and a half hours away, so you’re in for a bit of a drive. But this is the air show two in this “area”. If you’re got an aviation fan on your hands, don’t miss this!
For more general information about the show, visit the Shaw Air Expo page.
