If you’re a local runner looking for the next challenge, I’ve got one for you. How about a half marathon? Maybe you just read that sentence and chuckled a little thinking you’re not in that league yet. Maybe you just said, “Heck yes!” Either way, keep reading.
My dear friends over at the Grand Strand Running Club have put together a half marathon training session much like their awesome 5K training program I went on and on and on about. There are educational sessions about technique, strategy, safety, gear, and nutrition. You’ll be supported through runs complete with hydration. You’ll be guided by certified running coaches and surrounded by tons of enthusiastic support. In the end, you’ll be able to complete 13.1 miles, or a half marathon, just in time for the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon.
In talking to one of the course organizers, to be a good candidate for this 14-week training session you should comfortably be able to run three to five miles. I’m not quite there yet, so this one isn’t for me, but maybe next year!
If you’ve read any of my previous running posts, you know how much this group has changed my life. If you’re ready to take the next step, let this one be it. You deserve it and I promise your probability of success will skyrocket!
The cost is $75 for non Grand Strand Running Club members, which includes a one-year membership, and $55 for members. It begins on July 14th and will be held each Sunday for 14 weeks behind the Claire Chapin Epps YMCA in Myrtle Beach at 7 a.m. Groups will be divided up based on goals and skill levels.
