I have a beautiful friend, Jen, who has brain cancer. She’s my age, has three amazing little boys, a completely handsome husband, and two tumors in her head. She named them because she’s sassy like that.
For the past ten (I think) years, she’s battled them. There has been surgery, monitoring, 24 months of chemotherapy (yes, you read that right), and a month of radiation that finished up last week. She’s handled it more grace that I’ve ever been able, and may ever be able, to muster. She’s gorgeous. She’s uplifting. I once wrote her a letter and said, “You’ve got the heart of a lion in a frail body of a little bird.” She’s working to raise awareness of both brain cancer and childhood cancer.
I love her and she’s an inspiration. And every time I have a health issue, I think about all she’s suffered through. It puts things in perspective and makes me thank God every day for good health and pray for those I love who are dealing with illness and injury.
