A few weeks ago a few friends and I were looking for something to do on a rare Mom’s Night Out. I had eaten more Christmas cookies than I care to admit, so going out to a restaurant didn’t sound appealing. It was cold, so anything outdoors wasn’t fun. We’ve all been to the majority of big shows at our local theaters – plus, they’re expensive. We decided on the Carolina Improv Company at Uptown Theatre in the Myrtle Beach Mall.
I’ve been a fan of stand-up comedians and improv comedy since I was a teenager. What’s better than sitting there and having people make you laugh? So let me set the stage for you.
Uptown is an intimate theater, just down from Bass Pro Shop. There is a variety of shows. You can check out the calendar of events, which notes if the show is best suited for those over 18. Tickets are available for the shows at the door, or online.
A cast of comedians look to the audience for suggestions that shape the scenes and games. No two shows are the same and the comedy ranges from quirky and silly to completely hilarious. At one point I’m pretty sure I couldn’t breathe. The show lasted about 90 minutes, which was just enough. My girlfriends and I left giggling and happy with our time together.
Carolina Improv Company is ranked #1 by Trip Advisor in the nightlife category. Why? Because it’s one of few things that locals and visitors can enjoy equally. I’m certain I’ll go back. Heck, maybe I’ll take one of their classes and find myself up on that stage one day!
If you’re hooked and want to buy tickets now, take advantage of a Dealsaver which offers half off the purchase of four or eight tickets. If you’re not ready to buy but want to learn more, check out Carolina Improv Company on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
